Recount Text tells the readers what happened. It
retells a past event.
The Generic Structure of the text is:
A. Orientation:
Information about what, who, where, and when
B. Events:
Tell what happened in the past in chronogical order
C. Reorientation:
Sumarry and the closure of events
The Purpose of recount text is to retell past
experience / entertain the readers
EXAMPLE:
Holiday
In Jember
Two
months ago, On Monday afternoon, I had a chance to go to Jember with my
friends. This chance was amazing time. – ( Orientation )
Firstly,
when we arrived in Jember, we visited Toga Mas bookstore. Toga Mas served many
kinds of book. Novel, Education book, Magazine, etc. But, I didn’t buy anything
at there, because I though it was not interesting. After that we went to pizza
hut for having lunch. We ordered big family packet and deep green. Then we went
to Golden Market. We just played in Game Fantasia, Golden Market, we didn’t buy
anything at there. Then we went to Gramedia Bookstore. At There, we read many
books and bought many books. I bought two novels. After that we went to
Matahari. My Friend, Flo wanted to buy a dress for an agenda. After that we
went to Cineplac cinema. At there we checked out the movie schedule, then we
bought the ticket. And we also bought popcorn and some snacks. At 3 p.m the
film would begin. We entered the room. We watched a movie with title “ CAPTAIN
AMERICA – A WINTER SOLDIER”. We very enjoyed the film. The Film Ended at 6 p.m
After that, we went to Roxy, at there we also didn’t buy anything because we
though there were not something that interesting. Next we went to KFC for
having dinner. We ordered Big Packet. Next we went to home. On the way to home,
in the car, we celebrated my friends birthday party and listened to the music.
At 8.30 p.m, finally I arrived at home. – ( Events )
This
Chance was very valuable, I would go to Jember again sometimes.–( Reorientation

It usually begins with
adverbs, such as long time ago, once upon a time, in a far away, long time ago.
The
Princess Who Loved To Sing
Princess
Isabel loved to sing very much. She sang anytime and anywhere, when she was
singing, everyone be quiet. If not, she would punish them. – (Introduction)
One
day an old beggar asked her some money while she was singing. Princess Isabel
was very angry. But the beggar was angry too. The old beggar was actually a
witch. She cursed Isabel “ From Now On, You Cannot Sing”. Fortunately there was
a fairy. She was good to everybody. She wanted to her voice back. However, it
never comeback. So, she traveled from one city to another city to do good
things. – ( Complication )
One
day, when she took a rest in a forest after her long journey. She saw a thin
little boy, the boy was hungry. Without thingking or herself, Isabel gave her
on;y sandwich, suddenly, she sang, The beautiful voice was back. – ( Resolution
)
